How to Increase the Alkalinity of Your Water

Alkaline water has been researched and proven to improve the overall health of your body. Alkaline liquids are important in neutralizing acidity in the body. In an age where maintaining a healthy body is a popular subject, alkaline water is gaining popularity.  There are various things that should be done to increase the alkalinity of water safely. Water is the best liquid to mix with an alkaline because it its purest form it has a neutral pH. That is to say that water is neither an acid nor alkaline. If you don’t want to buy alkaline water such as QURE Water from your local supermarket, here is what you should do.

  1. Measure the Starting pH of the Water

Buy some pH strips at your local drug store to measure the water’s pH. The measurements should be used to measure the water before purification, after purification and after alkalizing the water.  The water will probably have an acidic pH before the purification process. Once purified, the pH should be roughly at 7.0 on the pH scale.

  1. Distill the Water

Before adding alkaline to the water, ensure that the water is pure. The latest distillers can remove toxins from your water to the neutral point. The process of distillation involves boiling water to the point it evaporates at 100 degrees. The steam then travels to a cooling compartment where it cools down to pure water. The impurities are left in the boiling compartment. There are distillers that can be connected to you refrigerators cooling system.

  1. Add the Additive of Choice

When the water has cooled down, it’s time to alkalize the water. There are three easy ways to alkalize water by using baking soda, lemons, and droplets.

Baking Soda

Baking soda has a very high alkaline level. It’s only recommended only a ½ a teaspoon of baking soda for a gallon of purified water. Dr. Robert O. Young is a researcher and author who recommend using baking soda to increase alkalinity.

Fresh lemons can be added to drinking water increase alkalinity. It’s a popular belief that lemons are acidic. This belief is not true. Lemon is anionic which reacts to the body during digestion to become alkaline. The lemons should be fresh and be cut immediately before use. Do not use store-bought lemon juice or lemons that have been cut for more than thirty minutes.

There are drops that can be bought over the counter to increase the alkalinity in water. The drops are created purposely to be added to water. Follow the instructions on the bottle diligently. The correct measurements will give the desired effect.

Once you add the alkaline of choice to the water, test it to confirm the alkaline levels. The optimum level of alkaline water is between the pH scale of 8 and 9. The water with lemon juice will be acidic when tested with pH strips. This should not be a cause for alarm because the pH of the lemon water will turn alkaline once it mixes with other digestive fluids. Alkaline water reduces the level of acidity in the body. The alkaline water combined with other healthy habits like cleaning, eating and exercising has positive health benefits.
